LOCATION:  DORSET, ENGLAND

FOCUS:  CHICKEN RESCUE

LOCAL CHARITY:  LITTLE CAGE FIGHTERS

TOTAL DONATED:  $6,850 to build a complete hen hospital!

VOLUNTEERING:

I was able to spend ten days cleaning chicken coops, fixing coops, feeding chickens, and helping rehome 70 rescued battery hens, with the wonderful organization "Little Cage Fighters" - A DREAM VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE!

They say you shouldn't meet your heros, but that isn't the case here! I've admired Haidy Mansfield for years as an animal advocate, and in the world of chicken advocacy and rescue work, she's about as big of a celebrity you can find!

I was stoked to work with her for such a large chunk of time, including a rehoming day where we were able to rehome over 70 chickens to their new forever homes! Cleaning her coops and working on her new animal surgery was a trip highlight - not to mention a day with her in Glastonbury!

CHARITY SUMMARY:

People often associate aid work in the developing world, but you can find places to help even in places like England!

Little Cage Fighters advocates for the ethical treatment of all animals, especially chickens, and doing away with the cruel business of animal agriculture. It was founded and is currently run by Haidy Mansfield, one of the kindest and most efficient women I've ever met.

She works with different local and national organizations to rehome thousands of chickens rescued from the egg industry every month, coordinating with local families willing to give forever homes to these hens. Based on my love of chickens, meeting her was a huge deal, and she let me work with her for a few weeks.

So grateful to participate in some impactful work with an amazing partner - not to mention that it was in one of the most beautiful parts of the world - Dorset!

I stayed in a 500 year old pub 10 minutes from her home, and we had a few days off for me to do some sightseeing, spent a day in Glastonbury having a picnic with her friends, and I even got to celebrate Summer Solstice at Stonehenge!

She's a remarkable and inspiring woman, and so easy to love and want to be near. I was happy to help with every task she gave me, and also so stoked to raise nearly $7,000 for her and her partner organizations!

WHAT AN AMAZING AND BENEFICIAL FEW WEEKS!
